Wind is a major form of renewable energy and wind farms of various scales are appearing in many countries. However, they can create a potential risk to flight safety both by being a physical obstruction, as well as interfering with the operation of some CNS systems. Radars are particularly prone due to the speed of rotating turbine blade tips being similar to the speed of aircraft in flight, thereby causing radars to wrongly identify wind turbines as aircraft. Lacle supports wind farm developers and airspace users during the siting and design of new wind farms by conducting comprehensive aeronautical studies to confirm compliance with international guidelines, to identify risks to flight and CNS operations, and to recommend any necessary mitigation measures.
